Lions National Convention
Ballina Lions Club has been selected to Host the 51st annual convention of District 133 - the all Ireland governing body of 106 local Lions clubs. This prestigious event will attract up to 300 delegates and visitors to Ballina over the weeknd 6th - 8th March, 2020. This International voluntary organisation has 2200 members in Ireland all involved in serving their local communities. The 50th national convention will recognise the work of the members who raise €4 million annually for community projects and charities. Since their formation over €50M has been raised for projects in Ireland. The International organisation has 46,000 clubs worldwide and over 1.4 million members and is one of the world’s largest service organisations.The Convention is the vehicle used to educate and train the officers and members of the 110 clubs in Ireland. It co ordinates the national programmes of community welfare promoted by the National Executive and sets the priorities for the coming year. It aligns with the worldwide projects of LCIF - Lions Clubs International Foundation - whose current priorities are the fight against Global blindness, Diabetes and Child Cancer. The Lions club is a registered charity in Ireland ( GHY15707 ) and is recognised as one where 100% of the monies raised goes directly to local projects and charities. Members fund the organisation from their own personal contributions and attend this convention at their own expense.
